Uh i played avalon at juno brewery last night as part of a big suite of bluffing and deduction games i loved it i love the company uh this was such a great uh it was such a great torture chamber of of paranoia doubt betrayal uh that it was fun it's like taking a vacation in prison.
It's a very simple game uh you know all of the knights all the players there are knights they've all sworn their allegiance to king arthur and over five rounds you've got to figure out whether people are lying or telling the truth and there's a character merlin who knows who the traitors are and there's an assassin who can win the game for the bad side if he can guess who merlin is.
So it's really a game about vibes it's a game about side eyeing it's a game about telling people that they're acting kind of weird right now and everybody has their own little habits or tells it's fun to see somebody you know being told that they acting weird and how they defend themselves from that uh it fun listening to people over defend always talking about how they going to be loyal to arthur uh you have people that sulk and they don say anything at all during the game you have other people that are trying to deduce who's on what side and uh it is real psychological torture especially if you're playing as merlin because you know you can automatically lose the game if you give on to what you know.
This game is really about how much you want to be believed how much you're willing to be believed how fast you can flip on your friends whether you can defend yourself under pressure and how you blend in with people in this very compressed format that's a little bit like theater and a little bit like therapy and a little bit like a team building exercise and uh it's also excuse me it's also a game where anything can happen there are just so many coincidences and weird things that happen during avalon that's unexpected it's like playing blackjack where there's a gazillion combinations of cards based on how everybody else's hand is doing. It's a very weird time, and you might love it.
